Seabased, a Swedish-based wave energy developer, is planning to install wave energy power plant in the Indian Ocean.

Seabased has signed a memorandum of understanding with Seafaradays Energy, a New-Delhi based energy project developer, to construct a wave energy power plant off Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India.

The wave energy plant will be constructed in stages, with the first phase involving the building of a 1 MW plant, which will, Seabased states, eventually be expanded to 30 MW.

The agreement between Seabased and Seafaradays Energy also covers cooperation regarding offshore installation engineering and services in the international market.

Seabased’s wave energy technology is based on WECs with linear generators, deployed on the sea bed.

The generating unit placed on the sea bed is connected to a buoy on the surface via a line, which captures the motion energy of the waves, enabling the WEC to generate electricity.

The WECs are connected to marine substations, from where an alternating current can be transmitted directly to the onshore grid.

Seabased is involved in wave energy projects in Sweden and Ghana, and is also providing its technology to Simply Blue Energy that plans to develop wave farm off Cornwall.
