Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC), a US-based hydrokinetic technology developer, has established a subsidiary in Canada.

ORPC’s wholly-owned subsidiary Énergies Marines Renouvelables Québécoises (EMARQ) will be based in Montreal, Quebec, with Marcel Boridy named as EMARQ’s General Manager.

Boridy said: “EMARQ’s vision is to work collaboratively with the Quebec government and interested organizations to install marine renewable systems in river and tidal environments starting with Quebec’s Plan Nord region.

“EMARQ is committed to maximizing the contributions of local partners by creating a Quebec-based industry cluster and generating significant economic benefits including job creation.”

To remind, ORPC also established ORPC Ireland based in County Donegal, Ireland, and was awarded funding from The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland to conduct the feasibility assessment study in order to identify tidal energy development opportunities in the coastal waters of the County.

Furthermore, ORPC installed and grid-connected its RivGen Power System in Alaska earlier this year.
