Ocean Energy Europe 2015 brings industry leaders to Ireland

Ocean Energy Europe is organizing a two-day ocean renewable energy event that is expected to bring industry and government leaders together to Ireland.

The event is organized with the support of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland. According to Ocean Energy Europe, high-level representatives will discuss the latest political, technological and financial developments in the ocean renewable energy sector.

Two-day conference sessions will cover themes concerning the flagship projects and ways to commercialize the sector, export opportunities for doing business outside the European Union, as well as technologies and methods that will help reduce costs of energy production from ocean renewable sources.

Furthermore, the event will feature sessions on wave energy industry progress, financial challenges in the sector, and business opportunities for smaller wave and tidal energy converters.

So far, Alex White, the Irish Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, has confirmed his participation at Ocean Energy Europe 2015, together with Rob Stevenson, President of Ocean Energy Europe, Paul O’Brien, Scottish Development International’s Head of Ocean Energy, and Simon de Pietro, Managing Director of DP Energy.

The event will also feature the ReDAPT project workshop on October 21.

The project seeks to demonstrate the performance of tidal generator in different operational conditions. Its aim is to increase public and industry confidence in tidal turbine technologies by providing a wide range of environmental impact and performance information, as well as demonstrating a new, reliable turbine design.

With an ETI (Energies Technology Institute) investment of £12.6 mln, the project involves Alstom, E.ON, EDF, DNV GL, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), the University of Edinburgh and the University of Manchester.

Ocean Energy Europe 2015 will take place in Dublin at Croke Park, on 20-21 October 2015.

Ocean Energy Europe represents the renewable ocean energy sector in Europe, and is based in Brussels.
