Atmocean, a US wave energy developer, is aiming to deploy its wave energy system off Peru on June 10, 2015.

The assemly process of the 1:3 scaled wave energy system lasted four days, following the arrival of the power take-off (PTO) system and buoys, at the deployment location in Ilo, Peru.

The scaled demonstration system consists of 5 buoys and 5 pressurized pumps.

Aside from producing electricity, the alternative product of the system is desalination – production of fresh water from sea water – which makes the system suitable for dry regions such as Peru and Chile.

The demonstration system will act as a proof of concept, leading to a full scale system deployment consisting of 15 units by the end of 2015.

According to Atmocean’s social media, the company aims to deploy the system on June 10, 2015.

Earlier this month, Atmocean received an official permit from the Peruvian Navy granting the US-based wave energy developer a one-year license to demonstrate its wave energy technology Peruvian coastal city of Ilo.

Atmocean is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA. The company has set up a Peruvian subsidiary to seize the opportunities available in Latin America and Peru.
