Alun Griffiths wins £25 mln supply contract for Swansea tidal

Alun Griffiths has been named as preferred bidder for public realm ancillary works for Swansea Bay tidal lagoon.

Under the contract, worth approximately £25 mln, Abergavenny-based Alun Griffiths will provide ancillary civil engineering for the project’s public realm works, including breakwater surface, roads, slipways, utilities and landscaping.

The contract will be delivered by a local workforce and materials will also be sourced locally, Tidal Lagoon Power’s press release reads.

Griffiths has awarded a design engineering contract to Atkins’ Swansea office, and a landscape architect contract to TACP of Cardiff.

Roger Evans, Chair of the Tidal Lagoon Industry Advisory Group, said that the appointment of Alun Griffiths demonstrates the developer’s commitment to ensure the Wales supply chain is fully able and prepared to realise the economic benefits of tidal lagoon’s development.

He added: “Further works packages will be tendered over the coming months and we are encouraged that the other tier one contractors announced so far are being proactive in their engagement with Welsh industry giving us the opportunity to harness the power of this major £1 billion investment in Wales.”

Tidal Lagoon Power is a UK-based tidal developer company that is currently developing six tidal lagoon projects, including Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon project.

Alun Griffith is a Welsh-based civil engineering and construction contractors company that delivers projects across the private and public sector.
