BlueWeek2015: Collaboration crucial for viable ocean energy

The event, jointly organized by Deltares, MARIN, and TKI Wind op Zee highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing for advancing ocean renewables.

BlueWeek2015 was held from April 20-22 at Deltares Campus in Delft, the Netherlands.

The event served as a forum for representatives from industry, government and science to share the latest news about innovations and research and development activities in offshore wind sector, marine renewable energy and natural propulsion.

The conclusions from the event state that the Energy Agreement requirement for the Netherlands to achieve 16 percent of sustainable energy production by 2023 is impossible to reach without offshore wind farms and tidal flow plants.

“The Dutch Energy Agreement can be successful only if industry, the government and researchers active in the field of offshore wind energy and energy production from water work together. The Marine Renewable Energy Symposium at Deltares made that clear. The Energy Agreement requires 16 percent of Dutch energy to be sustainable by 2023. Without offshore wind farms and tidal flow plants, this goal cannot be achieved,” Deltares’ press release reads.

It was concluded at the conference that major advances can still be made, particularly in the areas of installation, logistics and maintenance, to make sustainable energy from the sea more profitable faster.
