FORCE to discuss Minas Passage power cables safety zone

FORCE has invited interested parties to discuss the proposed safety zone around recently installed power cables at Bay of Fundy, Canada.

The Fundy Ocean Research Center for Energy (FORCE) has completed the mapping of the seabed location of the installed subsea cables in the Minas Passage, Bay of Fundy. The proposed safety zone is expected to protect people, cables and fishing gear from harm.

The area in Minas Passage where the cables are laid, and where the safety zone is planned to be built is of interest for the lobster fishermen, and concerns have been raised about the potential negative effects the construction of the safety zone could have on the fishing industry in the local area.

The meeting is scheduled for April 14, 2015, at Conference Room, Super 8 Truro, Truro, Nova Scotia.

Late in December 2014, Government of Canada granted four approvals for developmental feed-in tariffs for the installation of turbine arrays in the Bay of Fundy submitted by the tidal developers at FORCE. The installations of the turbines are expected to take place in 2015.
