Japan: High renewable energy potential

Japanese Ministry of the Environment has issued a study on renewable energy potential of the country.

The aim of the report was to establish a feasible prospect for middle and long term period, and to propose measures to create a low carbon society by 2050.

The report estimates the country’s renewable energy potential could be tripled, from current 116.1 TW/h to 356.6 TW/h by the year 2030.

The Ministry said: “The calculation of prospects of renewable energy is estimated with the several presumption of intensity of policy. We backcast the world in 2030 from the world in 2050 from the viewpoint of promoting renewable energy use. The grid constraint is also considered for the estimation.”
