Cooperation brings OTEC to Philippines

Akuo Energy has signed an agreement with Bell Pirie Power Corp. and Philippine National Oil Company Renewables Corp. (PNOC RC) to deploy an OTEC plant in the Philippines.

The government of Philippines has created a renewable energy programme covering the period to 2030, and the signing of this MoU represents a step closer for Philippines to increase the percentage of renewable energies fed to its grid.

“The know-how developed by Akuo Energy in the implementation of innovations in overseas island territories, combined with the technological expertise of its partners, will be pivotal assets for steering this 10 MW project and making OTEC technology more accessible to the many islands that make up the Philippines,” Akuo’s press release reads.

Akuo Energy announced in February the plans to build an OTEC plant in Indonesia, in cooperation with Pertamina.

Akuo Energy is a French producer of renewable energy, that aims to increase worldwide installed capacity of renewables to over 3.000 MW within five years.

Bell Pirie Power Corp. is a power generation company specializing in ocean energies in the Philippines, OTEC energy in particular.

PNOC RC is a fully owned subsidiary of state-owned Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC). The company aims to promote and undertake research and development of new, renewable, non-conventional and environment-friendly energy sources and systems.
