France simplifies marine renewables licensing

The French Senate has passed several simplification measures regarding marine renewables, including provisions to create a single licensing regime for offshore renewable energy, it is stated in SER’s press release.

This provision is an important development for the industry in terms of simplification of procedures.

It will facilitate the processing of applications for authorization and reduce litigation risks by limiting the number of authorizations.

It allows developers to obtain a unique license for renewable energy production facilities offshore, internal electrical connections to these facilities and power delivery stations associated with them, as well as the connection to the public network structures of these renewable energy installations.

Jean Louis Bal, Chairman of the Syndicate of Renewable Energies, said: “The establishment of a single permit for marine energy projects ends a complex system causing delays and risks incompatible with these projects’ economy.”
